British, born 1953 in London educated in the UK. Self-taught and with many expositions to his credit over the last 20 years in Europe and the USA.
Richard Popitti alias Rxx comes from a long line of creativity. His father was an accomplished painter. He founded one of the world’s largest design firms and owned one of the prominent advertising agencies in post-war Britain. His aunt was also a painter and his grandparents and ancestors were architects and artists. Art is in his blood and in his soul.
Richard began his career, like his father, in the world of advertising. However he left advertising for the world of finance in the mid 70s. Now after years of looking at only red and black, he is exploding with a whole spectrum of happy colours mixed with words and numbers. He has come a full circle.
His process is simple; he sees a word, he hears a word and from there his imagination begins. He expresses how he sees and hears that word by letting his ideas follow and flow. It is the same with objects; he looks at an object, imagines a colour and just paints with happiness.
Behind each painting is a depth of multiple meanings that can either be words painted thickly on top of images or just words on top of other hidden words that hide sentences or phrases.
His secret is that he enjoys having fun by painting with bright colours. Then by applying the paint thickly on to a canvas with multiple layers his happy dreamland slowly turns into a reality. Painting is his adventure and when he begins a canvas he never knows what will happen and when or how the finished dream will end.
Popitti has been acquired by numerous collectors across the US, UK, and Europe.
