Joey James Salehi works to capture the delicate moods that often slip past consciousness in the moment. Silently evolving into vast landscapes that reappear in vivid dreams or euphoric feelings triggered by such things as scents, like that of a stranger’s perfume. Color leads the elemental composition of Salehi’s work with humor and vulnerability not far behind. As the artist’s first solo exhibition, this debut couldn’t be any more meaningful. Giving us the chance to slowly melt into each piece, as they were crafted to be experiences within themselves.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, the artist absorbed much inspiration from the truly magical city. Obsessed with music video, film, and all pop culture, Salehi eventually worked as an art director for such productions. Not quite feeling an overall appreciation for art itself from the production world, Salehi moved into toy design. While it offered financial stability, it wasn’t until the artist left everything to focus on his personal art form that he felt complete. Years of meticulous planning have finally led to the physical manifestation of his highly personal series, Dreamscape88.
