Born 1948 in San Francisco, Mikey (@mikemike415) began his foray into art two years ago. After working union doing tile and later terrazzo, he found inspiration for creating art in the very materials in which he had previously constructed. And as terrazzo is very specialized, very expensive, very labor intensive and cannot be bought only produced from scratch, the inception of any of work by artist Mikey begins with the actual materials he is utilizing.
Knowing the multitude of stories that can exist in art, Mikey has a connection with tattoo artists as their works come alive literally by word of mouth. And connection is everything to him. Mikey knows his works need to be experienced live. He thrives on becoming a bystander and witnessing people showcase their true emotions with the work. It is from these connections, these small parts that meld with the material to become the works that made you feel something to begin with.
